Money magazine has released its 2023 Best Colleges list along with a new rating system, and Westminster has made a strong showing with a solid four stars.
Instead of assigning colleges with a numerical ranking, Money moved to a five-star rating system this year, giving college-shopping families a more useful tool when looking for the best school for its value. The new system aims to help families with their college search by highlighting the variety of high-value colleges across the country.
Westminster College—one of only 36 Pennsylvania schools earning four or five stars—did well in the rating, which included an analysis of 736 American colleges and universities. With a focus on above-average graduation rates, Money editors considered 26 data points centered around three measures: quality of education, affordability and future earning potential.
Committed to offering a high-quality education at an affordable price, last year Westminster awarded $27 million in funded and unfunded aid to assist students in financing their education. More than $7 million was from institutional grants and scholarships.
Westminster College offered some form of financial aid to 100% of students during the 2021-2022 academic year. Westminster assists students by awarding scholarships, grants and loans, as well as employment opportunities, from federal, state, private and institutional sources to all eligible students.
To make the Money list, a university or college must have at least 500 students, sufficient data to analyze, not be in financial distress and have a graduation rate at least at the median for its institutional category.
