Washington Monthly 2017 College Rankings placed Westminster College in the top 50 best liberal arts colleges in the nation. Westminster was also identified as a “best bang for the buck” college in the Northeast region of the United States.
For 12 years, Washington Monthly has been working to move away from rankings based on wealth-driven metrics and exclusivity. They claim to provide a more accurate measure of a college’s value by basing rankings on social mobility, research and service.
“The metrics Washington Monthly use to determine the nation’s best liberal arts colleges provide a holistic approach of the educational opportunities Westminster students experience,” said Dr. Thomas Stein, vice president for enrollment.
As a “best bang for the buck” college, Westminster is included in an exclusive list of schools that help students from low socioeconomic backgrounds attain marketable degrees at affordable prices. Washington Monthly establishes these rankings from data obtained from the U.S. Department of Education’s College Scorecard. Some of the methodology includes information on earnings, student loan repayment rates and the percentage of first-generation students.
