Four students selected to give podium presentations during URAC

Four students have been selected to present their research at podium presentations during this year’s Undergraduate Research and Arts Celebration (URAC) on Wednesday, April 17, at Westminster College.

Each year, URAC showcases the collaborative work between Westminster faculty and students.

Selected students, those who are amongst some of the top researchers at Westminster, are invited to present their research during the podium presentation portion of URAC. Podium presentations are selected amongst all students who submit an abstract to the event and are based on the quality of submissions.

This year’s podium presentations—which will all be held in Mueller Theater in McKelvey Campus Center and will be available on Facebook Live—are:

Ashley Tarter will present “A Game Theoretic Approach to Russian-Ukranian Relations” from noon to 12:25 p.m.  Tarter is a senior political science and English double major from Alliance, Ohio. Tarter’s faculty mentor is Dr. Michael Aleprete, professor of political science.

Grace Phillips will present “Bad Girl: An Examination of Deviant Female Characters in Contemporary Novels” from 12:30 to 12:55 p.m. Phillips is a senior English major and honors student from Saxonburg, Pa. Her faculty mentor is Dr. Trisha Cowen, associate professor of English.

Madyson Treharne will present “‘Awesome Mix, Vol. 2 Cassette’: A Study on Soundtrack Dissonance” from 3 to 3:25 p.m. Treharne is a sophomore creative media production and English double major from Burton, Ohio. Treharne’s faculty mentor is Brad Weaver from the School of Communication.

Sophia Galietta will present “The Effect of Nature Therapy on Mood and Cognition Among Individuals Reporting ADHD-like Symptoms” from 3:30 to 3:55 p.m. Galietta is a senior fine art and psychology double major and an honors student from Bethel Park, Pa. Galietta’s faculty mentor is Dr. Jessica Rhodes, associate professor of psychology.

Alongside the podium presenters, students ranging from first-years to seniors from nearly every academic discipline will participate in different URAC events, which include oral presentations, research roundtables, poster sessions, videos, performances and art displays.
