Dr. Kristianne Kalata, associate professor of English, will speak at the Bleasby Colloquium on Thursday, Nov. 17, at 7 p.m. in Mueller Theater. The event is free and open to the public.

Kalata’s presentation is titled “Emotion and Memory in Literary Best Sellers.” Kalata plans to examine the interaction of perspective, emotion, and memory in bestselling literary fiction of the 19th and 21st centuries.

“My research aims to deepen our understanding of how a novel’s form works with or against concepts of memory and emotion in both characters and readers,” said Kalata. “As an undergraduate at Westminster, I was an English major who minored in psychology and secondary education. This project gives me the opportunity to combine my longstanding interests in psychology with my work as an English professor.”

Work on this project has allowed Kalata to develop several new English courses in the past three years. Inspiration also came from a Cluster Course that she co-taught with Dr. Mandy Medvin in psychology.
