The past two summers have been full of changes for Westminster College. Since the summer of 2017, the College has invested over $16 million in campus renovations to improve academic buildings, athletic facilities, residence halls and campus grounds. This summer alone, $7.2 million has been invested in campus improvement projects, including the complete interior renovation of Galbreath Hall, a residence hall that currently houses 152 students.

Renovations are also underway in Hoyt Science Resources Center, where a new Neuroscience suite and major lecture hall are being constructed. Crews are also working to build an addition to the Memorial Field House that will expand the men’s varsity locker room and transform the hospitality room into a new student athlete lounge and study space.

Later this summer, the College will widen McClure Run Bridge, the bridge that connects the lower and upper parts of campus. The work on the bridge will make the structure safer for both vehicular and pedestrian traffic.

According to Dr. Kathy Brittain Richardson, president of the College, all of the summer projects will help provide great experiences for students and will support faculty and staff as they work collaboratively with students.

“The second goal of the College’s strategic plan calls for us to provide campus facilities that foster meaningful and challenging educational, community, artistic, athletic, leadership and worship experiences,” Richardson explains. “These projects focus clearly on accomplishing that goal.”

In addition to the major construction projects, other smaller renovations planned for this summer include:

• Upgrades to the McKelvey Campus Center, including relocating Student Affairs and Career Center areas to optimize resources and enhancing the common areas of the 1st floor of the TUB dining facility

• Replacing the sidewalk at the main entrance of the McKelvey Campus Center to provide ADA compliance

• Renovating a used space in Patterson Hall, home to the School of Music, to create a small performance space/multi-purpose room

• Adding an ADA-accessible ramp to the northeast entrance of McGill Library

• Replacing the roof of Orr Auditorium, the College’s premier concert venue

Construction projects completed in 2017 include the total renovation of two residence halls, Shaw and Russell, the construction of a new nursing suite in Hoyt Science Center to house the College’s new nursing program, and a major technological infrastructure upgrade project that included upgrading the wireless systems in all residential buildings.
