Westminster College alumnus Denny Wolfe ’97 and his ESPN Features unit were awarded the national 2018 Edward R. Murrow Award from the Radio Television Digital News Association (RTDNA) for a story about the 2016 life-saving heart transplant of Major League Baseball Hall of Famer Rod Carew.

The story, featured on SportsCenter, earned the top honors in the Feature Reporting/Television Network category. The ESPN crew will be honored at an awards dinner in October.

The RTDNA has been honoring outstanding achievements in broadcast and digital journalism with the Edward R. Murrow Awards since 1971.  Murrow’s pursuit of excellence in journalism embodies the spirit of the awards that carry his name. Murrow Award recipients demonstrate the excellence that Murrow made a standard for the broadcast news profession.

Wolfe, senior managing producer of the ESPN Features group, earned a bachelor’s degree in broadcast communications in 1997. He and his team will be honored at an awards dinner in October.

This is the second time a Westminster College broadcast graduate has won a Murrow Award honoring outstanding achievements in broadcast and digital journalism; Ben Webber ’00 also won the award in 2016.
