Defining Moment: Every Titan has one!

What is a defining moment? It’s an experience or a connection that transforms us and inspires us to think about ourselves, each other, and the world with new perspectives and insights. Defining moments can challenge us, deepen our resolve, help us find new strengths and discover joy.

At Westminster College, we believe that creating opportunities for defining moments is an essential component of the “Real Experiences, Real Success” for which we are known.

Now through Friday, Westminster College encourages alumni to visit www.westminster.edu/definingmoment to share their defining moments and to read about others’ defining moments. Alumni may choose to make a gift to the “Defining Moments” campaign so that current students have access to the experiences that will define their time at Westminster and quite possibly the trajectory of their lives.

A glimpse at the College’s current news stories reveals a wide range of opportunities for students to engage what the American Association of Colleges & Universities refers to as “high impact practices,” teaching and learning practices that provide significant educational benefits for students who participate in them. Service learning, undergraduate research, collaborative assignments and projects and community-based learning are examples of high-impact practices.

On average, the typical American student experiences one high-impact practice during their college career. But at Westminster, 100% of students participate in at least four high-impact practices, and many participate in more than that. That’s one of the reasons why the National Survey of Student Engagement placed Westminster College in the top 5% of all schools in the country for student-faculty interaction.
