Westminster College School of Music is hosting their annual Woodwind Day on Saturday, Nov. 9 from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. in Orr Auditorium. The day-long event is open to woodwind musicians of all ages and skill levels.
The School of Music will welcome guest artist and flutist Kasumi Leonard. A former member of the United States Army Field Band, Leonard has performed with the Buffalo Philharmonic and Omaha Symphony and is currently acting second flute/piccolo with the Sarasota Opera.
Throughout the day, participants will attend master classes and performances given by the guest artist and Westminster College woodwind faculty members. Additionally, attendees will participate in a group warm-up and woodwind ensemble reading session led by Aaron Himes, director of bands. Dr. Daniel Perttu, bassoonist and chair of Westminster’s School of Music, will also lead an educational clinic.
Leonard will present a recital of solo flute music at 10 a.m. An afternoon recital will be held at 3 p.m. and will feature Westminster College faculty members Alyssa Pysola, flute; Kim Winfield, oboe; Dr. James Flowers, saxophone; and Dr. Nancy DeSalvo, piano. Both recitals will be held in Orr Auditorium and are free and open to the public.
