Westminster College Students to Perform One-Act Operas in Butler

Six Westminster College students will perform two comic one-act operas Friday, April 6, in the Convocation Center at Butler County Community College following the 6:30 p.m. dinner.

The two operas, The Telephone by Gian-Carol Menotti and Bastien and Bastienne by Wofgang Amadeus Mozart, will be performed in English, and directed by Donald J. Rasely from the Westminster College Music Department.

The cast for The Telephone includes Donna Macurdy, a sophomore music education major and daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Glenn Macurdy, 214 Hannashtown Rd., Cabot, as Lucy; Jeff Lagios, a sophomore music education major and son of Mr. and Mrs. Nicholas Lagios, 113 Gettysburg Dr., Aliquippa, as Ben; and Stan Rothrock II, a senior music education major and son of Mr. and Mrs. Stanley Rothrock, 203 Forest Hill Rd., Yeagertown, as accompanist.

The cast of Bastien and Bastienne includes Nora Drake, a senior music performance major and daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Robert Drake, 48 N. Wood St., Greenville, as Bastienne; Rachel Helgeson, a senior music and theatre major and daughter of Mr. and Mrs. John Helgeson, 200 Park Ave., Apollo, as Bastien; and Brian Barrett, a sophomore music major and so of Mr. and Mrs. Bruce Barrett, 601 Chestnut St., Meadville, as Colas. Matthew McCright, a 1999 music major graduate of Westminster College who resides at 65 St. Glory Rd., Greenville, will accompany this performance.
