Westminster College will offer a series of computer classes designed specifically for senior citizens in February.

Five separate slow-paced mini-sessions, designed for people who may be new to the world of personal computers, will provide students with individualized attention to learn at their own pace, while having fun in a friendly and informal atmosphere.

Introduction to Computers for Seniors, Step I will cover such questions as what is inside the computer, how it functions, what can be done with it and much more.  This six-hour session is offered Tuesday through Thursday, Feb. 5-7, from 4:30 to 6:30 p.m. and requires no pre-requisite.

Computers for Seniors, Step II is designed for those who have completed Step I or anyone who believes their skills match this level.  Students will learn the basis of navigating the computer, expand the knowledge gained in the first session, and be introduced to word processing.  The workshop remains at a slow pace and provides a fun and relaxed learning environment.  This six-hour session is scheduled Tuesday through Thursday, Feb. 12-14, from 4:30-6:30 p.m.

Computers for Seniors, Step III is designed for those who have completed Step II.  This course will touch on more advanced computing concepts that will enable participants to make greater use of their computer.  Continuing in a relaxed and supportive environment, students will learn how to use the programs menu, keyboard shortcuts, and terminology.   This session runs Tuesday through Thursday, Feb. 19-21, from 4:30-6:30 p.m.

Introduction to E-Mail for Seniors will investigate all about using e-mail, including creating messages, sending attachments, using the address book and more.  Participants will learn how to take a look at pictures and keep in touch with their friends and family online.  This session is scheduled Tuesday, Feb. 26, from 4:30-6:30 p.m.

Cyber-Seniors: How to "Surf the Net" is the last of the special senior computer classes.  This session will cover the history of the Internet and its uses.  This hands-on seminar includes instruction on common terminology, the World Wide Web, web sites, browsers, and how they work.  This class is scheduled Thursday, Feb. 28, from 4:30-6:30.

Carroll Shaw, training and purchasing administrator at Westminster College, teaches all classes.  Shaw has successfully taught seniors about the computer for the past three years.
