Westminster College continues the "Get Real" life preparation series with "Apartment and House Hunting Tips" March 22 at 12:35 p.m. at McKelvey Campus Center Berlin Club Room.

The apartment and house hunting workshop will give students knowledge about leases, mortgages, rental and mortgage insurance, and security deposits. The workshop will be presented by John Lechner, assistant dean of student affairs at Westminster College, and his wife, Marilyn, a licensed real estate agent.

"We own and rent several properties and have purchased or built five houses," Lechner said. "I negotiated all the loans for our property purchases when loans were needed."

"We can only accept the first 25 students who register," said Kathryn Baranovich, a junior psychology major from Salem, Ohio, and coordinator of the series. "Students do not need to come to all sessions, but they do need to register because we include lunch with the session."

The "Get Real" life preparation series was developed to acquaint students with information about life after college. It provides advice about financial planning, banking, purchases, medical care issues and options, consumer and personal legal matters, comparative shopping, understanding labels, reading maps, apartment and house hunting tips, outdoor activities, and how to avoid finding Mr./Ms. Wrong.

"Our goal is to open students' eyes about what to expect after graduation, the nuances of life that are not typically covered in the formal classroom," said Dr. Neal Edman, dean of student affairs at Westminster College.

The seminars are free and open to all Westminster students, but are geared toward upperclassmen. Contact Edman at (724) 946-7110 or email nedman@westminster.edu for more information on the "Get Real" program.
