French Professor to Speak about Sabbatical Year

Posted on Thursday, February 14, 2008

Dr. Carol Bové, Westminster College professor of French, will present "Sabbatical Year: Literary Translation, Pittsburgh, and Paris" at Faires Faculty Forum on Wednesday, Feb. 20, at 11:40 a.m. in the Sebastian Mueller Theater in the McKelvey Campus Center.

The forum will describe Bové's work on literary translation, including research, a course taught at the University of Pittsburgh, and lectures delivered at the University of Paris. She will present ideas on incorporating translation studies into the Westminster curriculum. Bové has submitted a grant proposal to the National Endowment for the Humanities for a Faculty Workshop in Translation Studies to be held on the campus in June.

Faculty Forum was established in 1990 by Dr. Barbara Faires, Westminster professor of mathematics, during her term as Dean of the College and Vice President for Academic Affairs. Faculty members from all disciplines volunteer to present lectures on their current research, artistic productions, and/or scholarship of teaching and learning. Each forum presents new ideas with innovative lecture techniques.

Bové, who has been with Westminster since 1984, earned an undergraduate degree from the University or Pennsylvania, and master's and Ph.D. from the State University of New York, Binghamton.
