Westminster College Hosted Translation Studies Workshop

Westminster College hosted a workshop on translation studies and Westminster's undergraduate humanities curriculum June 2-6.

Marilyn Gaddis Rose, distinguished service professor of comparative literature at the State University of New York, Binghamton, was the featured speaker. Rose was instrumental in launching the first Ph.D. program in translation studies in the U.S.

Lina Insana, assistant professor of Italian at the University of Pittsburgh, spoke on her research in translation studies, including teaching courses in this field, and the Italian writer Primo Levi.

The workshop, with support from the Heritage Chair Funds, was organized by Dr. Carol Bové, Westminster professor of French and former student of Rose.

Westminster faculty participating in the workshop were Dr. Jeffrey Bersett, assistant professor of Spanish; Bové; Dr. Amy Camardese, assistant professor of education; Dr. Camila Bari de López, associate professor of Spanish; Dr. Russell Martin, associate professor of history; Dr. Ann Murphy, associate professor of French and Spanish and chair of the Department of Modern Languages; Dr. Joel Postema, assistant professor of Spanish and Heritage Chair of Humanities; Dr. David Swerdlow, professor of English; and Milagros Swerdlow, lecturer in Spanish.
