Westminster College Represented at Math Meeting

Seven mathematics students and three faculty represented Westminster College at the 11th annual regional Student Paper meeting hosted by the Ohio XI Chapter of Pi Mu Epsilon Feb. 21 at Youngstown State University.

The meeting gave undergraduate students the opportunity to present results of their projects and research and to listen to topics of interest to other undergraduate students in the region.

Richard Ligo and John-Tyler Soltys presented "Magic via Modular Arithmetic." Their faculty adviser is Dr. Carolyn Cuff, Westminster professor and chair of the Department of Mathematics and Computer Science and a 1978 Westminster graduate.

Ligo, a sophomore mathematics major, is a son of Jesse and Amy Ligo of Mercer and a graduate of Mercer Area High School.

Soltys, a sophomore mathematics and physics major, is a son of Gary and Lucinda Soltys of Latrobe and a graduate of Greater Latrobe High School.

Other Westminster students attending were:

Stephen Donnel, a sophomore mathematics major, is a son of Paula Donnel of Evans City and Douglas Donnel of Warner Robins, Ga. He is a graduate of Seneca Valley High School.

Coty Hainsey, a sophomore mathematics major, is a son of Allen and Bonnie Hainsey of New Paris and a graduate of Chestnut Ridge High School.

Stephen Rossi, a junior computer information systems and mathematics major, is a son of Eugene and Eileen Rossi of Oakmont and a graduate of Central Catholic High School.

April Scudere, a junior mathematics major, is a daughter of Anthony and Barbara Scudere of Fowler, Ohio, and a graduate of Brookfield High School. 

Nikki Snyder, a sophomore elementary education major, is a granddaughter of Robert and Nancy Snyder of Kittanning and a graduate of Ford City High School.

Westminster faculty attending were: Dr. Barbara Faires, professor of mathematics; Dr. Natacha Fontes-Merz, assistant professor of mathematics; and Dr. Pamela Richardson, assistant professor of mathematics.
