Westminster College's Drinko Center for Excellence in Teaching and Learning announced 22 Westminster students were selected as Scholars in Service to Pennsylvania (SISPA) for 2009-2010.

SISPA is an opportunity for students to become involved in the Service-Learning and Civic Engagement Initiative at Westminster, while receiving financial support for their education. Students agree to complete 300 hours of service in a year (Aug. 2009-Aug. 2010) and earn a $1,000 Segal AmeriCorps Education Award which can be used for any educational expense at Westminster, be applied to eligible student loans, or be held for seven years to pay for future educational expenses.

At Westminster, the program is overseen by the Drinko Center and coordinated by Bethany South, a 2008 Westminster graduate who serves as PACC*VISTA.

Students work with a variety of service agencies, including: Big Brothers/Big Sisters, Lawrence County Community Action Partnership, Habitat for Humanity, Westminster's Residence Life program, and Walker House after-school program.
