A Westminster College student recently received a scholarship through The Pittsburgh Foundation. The award will be applied to the student's tuition for the 2010-2011 academic year.

Sarah Ergen, a senior public relations major, received the final payment of a $10,000 four-year scholarship funded by the George and Dorothy Knedler Scholarship Fund. She is a daughter of Deborah Peters of McKees Rocks and a graduate of Montour High School.

"We are grateful to The Pittsburgh Foundation and their scholarship funds for their support of bright, motivated students, who represent the future of our region," said Gloria Cagigas, vice president for institutional advancement at Westminster.

The Pittsburgh Foundation is one of the oldest community foundations in the U.S., awarding more than $57 million in grants to a vast array of nonprofit organizations, students through scholarships, and medical researchers in 2008. Since 1945, The Pittsburgh Foundation has been connecting its generous donors with the critical needs of the community. Donors who have established funds through the Foundation can support virtually any area of charitable interest anywhere in the United States.
