Posted on Monday, September 6, 2010

Westminster College's Celebrity Series will open its 2010-2011 season with the Oak Ridge Boys Saturday, Sept. 18, at 7:30 p.m. in Orr Auditorium. The show is sponsored by Springfield Restaurant Group.

The current quartet - lead singer Duane Allen, tenor Joe Bonsall, baritone William Lee Golden, and bass Richard Sterba - has been together nearly 40 years, racking up a double platinum, three platinum, and 12 gold albums; more than a dozen national number one singles; and over 30 Top Ten hits.

The Oaks' string of hits includes "Elvira," "Bobbie Sue," "Dream On," "Thank God for Kids," "American Made," "Fancy Free," and "Gonna Take a Lot of River."

Their four-part harmonies and upbeat songs have earned the group Grammy, Dove, Country Music Association, and Academy of Country Music awards. In Sept. 2008, the Oaks were presented the coveted Pioneer Award by the Academy of Country Music, recognizing them as one of country music's truly legendary acts.

Good seats are still available from $25 to $45 per person.
