Men's Chorus and Director Participated in "Mucho Macho Music"

Posted on Tuesday, November 9, 2010

The Westminster College Men's Chorus and its director, Dr. Robin Lind, participated in the seventh annual "Mucho Macho Music" festival Nov. 2 at North Hills Junior High School in Ross Township.

The annual song festival for boys with changing voices in grades six through nine is sponsored by the Southwest Region of the American Choral Directors Association of Pennsylvania (ACDA-PA). The event was created by Lind and Shaun Cloonan, a 2000 Westminster graduate who is ACDA-PA Southwest Region chair and served as site host.

Members of the Men's Chorus mentored over 100 boys from 15 schools throughout the day, providing positive vocal models and encouraging them by performing for them and with them. Music education majors Shawn Sisler and Kevin Tomb assisted with sectionals during one of the rehearsal periods with accompaniment provided by Leah Parady and Anthony Pezzelle.

Guest conductor was Dr. Rollo Dillworth, associate professor of music education at Temple University.

The day's events concluded with a concert by the combined choirs, featuring Dillworth's "Shine on Me."

"Our Men's Chorus does this as an outreach program and a community service," Lind said. "They serve as excellent role models for these young men, both as musicians and as young adults. It is always a fun and educational experience to be part of this choral event."

Lind, who has been with Westminster since 2000, earned an undergraduate degree from the College of Idaho, master's from the University of Oregon, and Ph.D. from the University of Utah.
