Posted on Wednesday, April 20, 2011

Five Westminster College music faculty and 28 music education majors attended the Pennsylvania Music Educators Association state conference April 14-16 in Hershey.

Three faculty presented sessions for music educators, collegiate music students, and others:
   • Robert Matchett, adjunct music faculty (trombone) and director of the Westminster Jazz Ensemble, presented "A Comprehensive Approach to Selecting Better Jazz Ensemble Literature"
   • Dr. Daniel Perttu, assistant professor of music theory and composition, presented "Selecting a Music Theory Textbook: A Guide for High School Teachers"
   • Dr. Melinda Crawford Perttu, adjunct music faculty (strings) and director of the Westminster Symphony Orchestra, presented "Scottish Fiddling to Reinforce Intonation"

Additional faculty attending were Andrew Erb, adjunct music faculty (trumpet), and Dr. R. Tad Greig, associate professor, director of bands, and chair of Westminster's Department of Music.

Students attending the conference had the opportunity to attend sessions and concerts that provided additional insight toward their chosen degree.  Westminster's music department hosted an alumni reception and coordinated a recruitment booth in the exhibit hall for educators and prospective students.
