The Westminster College Department of Chemistry recently announced awards presented to chemistry majors in addition to those given at Honors Convocation.
Ashley Blystone received a cash award from the Penn-Ohio Border Section of the American Chemical Society, given annually to an outstanding third-year chemistry major. She is a daughter of Brian and Jessica Blystone of Ford City and a graduate of Ford City High School.
Christopher Bodle received a cash award from the Society of Analytical Chemists of Pittsburgh, given annually to an outstanding senior chemistry major and based on accomplishments in undergraduate chemistry, chemistry-related project, and a grade point average of 3.0 or higher. In addition to the individual award, a grant was given to purchase a book for the library in Bodle's honor. Bodle is a son of Kenneth and Dorothy Bodle of Clearfield and a graduate of Clearfield Area High School.
Jaimie Daum received the Freeman Award, a book award given to the student with the highest average in Organic Chemistry I and II. She is a daughter of Warren and Darby Daum of Butler and a graduate of Butler Area High School.
Brandon Kennedy received an eight-month subscription to the journal Analytical Chemistry from the American Chemical Society's Division of Analytical Chemistry, given annually to a rising senior chemistry major who demonstrates skill in analytical chemistry and an aptitude for a career in the field. Kennedy is a son of Douglas and Bridget Kennedy of Oil City and a graduate of Oil City Area High School.
Allison Rice received the Handbook of Chemistry and Physics from the Chemical Rubber Company, awarded annually to the first-year student with the highest average in chemistry courses. Rice, who also majors in mathematics, is a daughter of Paul and Diana Rice of Poland, Ohio, and a graduate of Poland Seminary High School.
