Westminster College Celebrity Series Announces 2005-06 Season

The Westminster College Celebrity Series 2005-06 season offers a variety of musical entertainment from Broadway to county to an indoor marching band performance.

"We are unusually excited about the large-scale shows that make up our next season," said Gene DeCaprio, director of the Westminster College Celebrity Series.  "The shows promise the best in American entertainment."

Tuesday, Sept. 27, the season debuts with the Broadway hit "42nd Street."  This full-scale production is an American musical theater classic that includes tap dancing, unforgettable songs, stunning costumes, sets and lights all wrapped around the heartwarming story of an unknown chorus girl thrust into stardom.  "Lullaby of Broadway," "42nd Street," "We're in the Money," "Shuffle off to Buffalo," and "I Only Have Eyes for Your," are among the many songs included in this show.

Friday, Oct. 14, brings Ricky Skaggs and Kentucky Thunder with their bluegrass music.  Skaggs projected Bluegrass into the limelight of American entertainment with his 2005 Grammy Award winner for Best Bluegrass Album.  Americans were reached with this music in the film, "Oh Brother, Where Art Thou?"  He and his all-star band, Kentucky Thunder, entertain with not only Bluegrass, but country and gospel as well. 

Friday, Nov. 18, the season continues with a most unusual performance of Blast. This group combines brass, percussion and visual performers, and brings the power, passion and precision of outdoor pageantry of a marching band ensemble to the stage.  It combines the musical talent, kaleidoscopic movement, and showmanship to an art that this competitive and entertaining.

 Wednesday, Nov. 30, features "The Spirit of Christmas," a must-see family show.  This delightful and enchanting show takes the audience on a magical sleigh ride to enjoy the most popular Christmas songs of all times.  Santa, Mrs. Claus, and the Claus kids are combined with gorgeous costumes, breathtaking scenery, a glittering cast of Broadway singers and beautiful high-kicking dancers to bring the joys of Christmas to the whole family. 

 Saturday, March 11, is a "Broadway Celebration."  For generations, the magic of Broadway musicals have entertained audiences of all ages.  This show was created to bring the energy, excitement, and wonderful memories of Broadway into one spectacular musical extravaganza.  Hits from over 20 Broadway musicals, including "Hello Dolly," "Chorus Line," "Oklahoma," "Cabaret," "Chicago," "Grease," "Copacabana," "Mama Mia," "My Fair Lady," and others are included in this exciting show.

 Friday, March 31, concludes the season with one of the most entertaining programs in Celebrity Series history, "The Ten Tenors." Returning by popular demand, "The Ten Tenors" bring their great voices, boundless enthusiasm, and delightful sense of humor to the Orr stage.  The music ranges from Broadway to opera, and pop to rock.
