Westminster College will award Alumni Citations to Dr. Graham Johnstone, Karen Latta and Sany Saikaly and Burt Lauten will receive the Outstanding Young Alumni Award at the annual Citation Celebration Reception and Dinner Friday, Oct. 10, in the Witherspoon Rooms of the McKelvey Campus Center.

The Westminster College Alumni Citations were created to recognize alumni who achieved significant accomplishments in their profession or made meaningful contributions to the community or Westminster.  The Outstanding Young Alumni Award recognizes alumni of 15 years or less who are making significant contributions as they build careers and serve their communities or Westminster.

Johnstone, a 1966 graduate who majored in chemistry, continued his education at the University of Pittsburgh and interrupted his residency to serve in the U.S. Navy.  He is a practicing orthopedic surgeon and associate professor of orthopedic surgery with special interests in total joint replacement, sports medicine and treatment for cerebral palsy.  Since undertaking his first medical mission to Russia in 1999, he has participated in annual medical missions to Africa.  A former member of Westminster's Board of Trustees, Johnstone was honored with the 2012 Physician Volunteer Award by the Allegheny Medical Society.  Johnstone and his wife, Marilyn '67, live in McCandless and are the parents of three adult children.

Latta, a 1967 graduate who majored in music education, earned a master's in music education from Duquesne University.  As active in her career as she was as a student, Latta assumed the position of music teacher in the Wilmington Area School District, growing the choir from 20 to 100 members.  More than a dozen of her students were selected for all-state chorus and six participated in all-eastern chorus.  A strong supporter of Westminster, she sang with the 2002 Birthday Bash alumni choir, chaired her class reunion and served on Alumni Council.  She has directed and accompanied high school musicals and written and produced music for Christian musicals.  Latta and her husband, Bob '63, are retirees living in New Wilmington and are parents of three Westminster graduates.

Saikaly, who graduated in 1992 with a degree in telecommunications, joined PNC Bank as a customer service specialist in the credit card research department.  With more than 20 years of fraud and investigative experience, he is now a due diligence specialist in PNC's anti-money laundering and investigations department.  He has a 12-year record as a volunteer fireman; is a long-time junior high youth leader and board member at Glenshaw Presbyterian Church; and has twice been honored with Pittsburgh's Financial Crime Investigator of the Year Award.  Saikaly lives in Wexford with his wife, Stephanie, and their son.

Lauten, a 1999 graduate who majored in public relations with a broadcast communications minor, was hired as an intern at Miami University, moving to assistant athletic media relations director after a year and eventually back to the University of Pittsburgh.  He is now head of communications for the Pittsburgh Steelers, where his responsibilities include coordinating press releases, media requests and media tours.  He maintains close ties to his alma mater, serving as a speaker to student groups through offices and events on campus.  Lauten and his wife, Amy, and daughter live in Mars.
