Westminster College Public Relations Major Receives Scholarship

Melissa Logan, a senior public relations major at Westminster College, recently received the Betsy Plank Scholarship from the Public Relations Student Society of America at the 2003 Annual National Conference in New Orleans.

Established by the Friends of PRSSA, now called the Champions for PRSSA, this $1,500 Betsy Plank Scholarship recognizes academic achievement, demonstrated leadership, practical experience, and commitment to public relations. Plank was the first woman to lead the Society as president in 1973.

Logan, who is currently a marketing intern with the Westminster College Celebrity Series, also worked as an intern during the summer at the Latrobe Area Hospital. She served as president of the Westminster College Public Relations Student Society of American, and attended the National Assembly as a delegate in Miami, as well as the National Convention where she received the award.

Logan is a senior staff writer for the Holcad, Westminster's student newspaper; editor-in-chief of the Argo, Westminster's yearbook; a member of Mortar Board, an honor society which recognizes leadership, scholarship, and service skills; a member of Pi Sigma Pi, an honor society which requires at least a 3.6 overall quality point average; selection chair and member of Omicron Delta Kappa, a leadership honor society; Campus Programming Committee Publicity Chair; a member of Adopt-a-Grandparent at the Shenango on the Green; listed in Who's Who Among American Universities and Colleges; and a past member of the Gospel Choir, Student Publication Board, and Habitat for Humanity.

Logan is a daughter of Thomas and Deborah Logan, Mt. Pleasant, and a graduate of Mt. Pleasant Are High School.
