Comedian Bob Newhart Coming to Westminster College

Posted on Monday, October 13, 2003

Comedian Bob Newhart is coming to Westminster College Celebrity Series Tuesday, Oct. 21, at 8 p.m. in Orr Auditorium.

"Newhart only does about 30 concerts per year, and we are proud to be one of them," said Gene DeCaprio, director of the Celebrity Series at Westminster College.

Star of stage and television, Newhart has performed comedy concerts before sellout audiences all over the world. "The Bob Newhart Show" ran on CBS from 1972-1978, was guided by Newhart's high ethical standards at a time when comedy was becoming X-rated. From 1982-1990, the "Newhart" show featured the same mix of cast and was repeatedly nominated for the Emmy Award. TV Guide ranked Newhart's final episode as the fifth most memorable moment in television history.

His recent staring role in the summer release "Legally Blonde 2: Red, White and Blonde" was met with rave reviews. The November release of "Elf" features Newhart as the adopted elf father, "Papa Elf," who has to explain to his son that he is "not the standard elf."

A limited number of tickets are available. For ticket information, contact Connie McGinnis, assistant director of the Celebrity Series, at (724) 946-7354 or e-mail mcginncl@westminster.edu.
