The mission of New Student Orientation is to prepare first-year and transfer students for a successful transition to Westminster College. The program works to ensure that new students have an awareness of campus resources relating to academic success, student engagement, and wellness support. Further, we are deliberate in our integration of dialogues around inclusivity, justice, and shared responsibility for upholding an affirming and respectful campus community.

Once inside, peruse our extensive collection of yearbooks sharing campus over time or identify a past photo of a family member and pose with them on our photo screen. No previous Titans in your family, no problem; we’ll have lots of other photo ops including a Titan cutout and signage to capture the perfect snapshot.

The traditional Opening Convocation is a time of academic celebration that signals the start of the new academic year. All new students sit as a class in the first few rows on the left and right sections near the stage and families fill in the back rows.

We ask you to take a few minutes following Opening Convocation to say farewell before we begin the sessions dedicated to new students. Students will be called to follow orientation leaders to their afternoon sessions.

This is your very first Westminster class where you will meet your WST101 instructor and Peer Success Coach. Materials for the class will be provided. This session is for all new first-year students and transfer students registered for WST 101.

During the TitanTalks, you will hear from staff and students on how to navigate the various components of academic life. You will be given tools to promote academic success that can be tailored to fit your individual needs.
You will rotate through each presentation with a short break in-between sessions.
Transitioning away from home can be challenging. This session will introduce you to topics that help you navigate the reality of living and learning in a new environment. Get the inside scoop from peers on how they managed first-year fears and expectations and also from staff members who support students in their transition.
Whether you were diligent with calendar-keeping throughout high school, or if you left all of your commitments to chance (or to the adults in your life), it’s guaranteed you will experience a big shift in the way you manage your time and responsibilities in college. You will be in class for fewer hours, have more studying to do on your own, and have to keep track of things like laundry, meals, jobs, athletic schedules, appointments, and social events. So how can you manage it all? This orientation session will introduce you to strategies and resources that will help you regularly organize, plan, and prioritize your college life. Every participant will leave with a framework that will guide their weekly college schedule.
You will have the opportunity to meet with the college counselors, learn to identify signs of stress in your life, skills to manage your emotions, and identify resources on campus to support you and your well-being at Westminster College.

As new members of the Westminster Community, it is important to know campus policies and expectations so that you may succeed as an individual and foster a positive community with others. This session will focus on your role in building a positive community on campus so all Titans can feel welcome, accepted and supported.
Westminster College is committed to creating a campus culture of safety for all students and believes it's up to all of us to make that happen. This interactive training session will introduce interpersonal violence, ways to identify and prevent it, aspects of healthy relationships, consent culture, and the importance of bystander intervention. This session will provide a necessary foundation for the WST 101 Class IPV Prevention and Bystander Intervention.
As you transition to taking on more responsibility for your own digital safety and financial well-being, learn some best practices to limit your digital risk and begin you path to financial management. Incorporating these best practices now can lead to opportunities later on while reducing barriers to your current and future success.

This session will provide an understanding of DEI principles and their impact on our Titan community. This training will introduce you to equity work and offer actionable strategies to support DEI initiatives. Additionally, you will gain practical tools to actively contribute to a more inclusive and equitable Titan community.
Prevention Education is key in the fight against alcohol and drug abuse. In Real Talk: Alcohol, Drugs, and Your Campus Experience, students will learn tools to navigate problematic behavior relating to alcohol and drug use. This session will help students identify ways to reduce risk if choosing to use drugs and alcohol as well as how to recognize and intervene in alcohol emergencies.
College is an opportunity to explore leadership, develop your voice and determine how you advocate for yourself in different spaces. Student Government Association (SGA) will introduce themselves and the opportunities you have as new students to get involved on campus. Beyond involvement with SGA, this session will focus on the importance of advocating for yourself and how to do so professionally.

Join Faith & Spirituality in a non-denominational blended-style of worship that will focus on what you will see as part of your college journey. Local worshipping communities will be present to invite students to join them for future Sunday morning services. The service will last 45 minutes followed by ice cream and a time for fellowship outside Wallace Memorial Chapel. Come to the Wall service is offered the first Sunday of each month.
