Keynote Presentation: J. Derek Penn

As part of our kickoff to the Professional Networking Symposium, Westminster College's School of Business is pleased to host an open-to-the-community event with J. Derek Penn, Wall Street financial executive, professional athlete, author and speaker whose expertise and career focused on strategic counsel to the global financial industry. The event will take place the day prior to our annual PNS event.

His message will weave a narrative of hope and perseverance designed to inspire, enlighten, and inform. He will discuss how to leverage both the college and sports experience, and how to prepare for the first year at school to the first job and beyond. 

His recently published book Diary of a Black Man on Wall Street: From Youngstown, Ohio to the Big Apple details his climb from a young athlete and student in his hometown of Youngstown to his rise at the international business level, amidst the many challenges that he faced on a daily basis as a black professional in his field.

Mr. Penn holds a BA in Chemistry and English from Duke University and an MBA from the prestigious Fuqua School of Business - Duke University. He held brief stints in the NFL and CFL and realized how important furthering his education was in order to achieve his lifetime goal of success. His expert knowledge and management skills guided clients towards financial success, including firms like Morgan Stanley, Merrill Lynch, Lehman Brothers, Fidelity Investments, Pershing LLC and BNY Mellon.
