Westminster College Associate Professor of History Dr. Angela Lahr will present a public lecture in connection with Constitution Day from 12:45-1:45 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 17, in 207 Patterson Hall on the College’s campus.

In her presentation, “Here Comes the Freedom Train: The Constitution and the Freedom Train Exhibit in the Early Cold War,” Lahr will explain the history of the Freedom Train and the symbolic meaning of the U.S. Constitution that reveals its cultural power, as well as its legal and political power.

The event, which is free and open to the public, is sponsored by the political science and history departments at Westminster College.

Federal law requires the College to have an event to celebrate the adoption of the U.S. Constitution by the Constitutional Convention on Sept. 17, 1787, in Philadelphia.

Lahr joined the Westminster faculty in 2013. Her research interests include American religious history, the history of the Cold War and women’s history. She is the author of “Millennial Dreams and Apocalyptic Nightmares: The Cold War Origins of Political Evangelicalism.” She earned her undergraduate degree from the University of Evansville and holds a Ph.D. and master’s degree from Northern Illinois University.
