The Westminster College Planetarium will host four new shows this spring.

The first show, “Supermassive Black Holes,” will be shown on Wednesday, Feb. 5, and Friday, Feb. 14. Leading scientists in observational and theoretical studies of black holes and galaxies, industrial experts in cutting-edge big technologies and professionals in science dissemination have been brought together to set up research projects. This show presents the environments of the black holes in an impressive and understandable way to the audience. The show is recommended for ages 10 and up.

“We are Aliens!” will be shown Wednesday, Feb. 26, and Friday, March 7.  The human race is connected better and faster than ever before, but what about elsewhere? Could we be part of a galactic community one day? Or is Earth the only planet with life? “We Are Aliens!” takes the audience on an epic ride in the hunt for evidence of alien life. Recommended for ages 5 and above.

The next show, “Drifting North: The Arctic Pulse,” will take place Wednesday, March 26, and Friday, April 4. This show follows an international team of scientists from over 20 countries as they embark on an epic year-long expedition to the Central Arctic.  For a year, the Multidisciplinary Drifting Observatory for the Arctic Climate (MOSAiC) team drifts with an ice floe and strives to understand the Arctic climate system and its future. This show is recommended for ages 8 and above.

The final show, “Forward! To the Moon,” will be on Wednesday, April 16, and Friday, April 25. Kari Byron from Crash Test World and MythBusters launches us on a journey beyond the Earth towards a sustainable future in space. NASA’s 21st century Artemis program, named after the Greek moon Goddess and twin of Apollo, is the next step in our mission to explore the universe and land the first woman and person of color on the surface of the moon. Recommended for ages 8 and above.

All shows begin at 6 p.m. The Westminster College Planetarium is located in room 116 of the Hoyt Science Center.

Shows are free and open to the public, but reservations are necessary due to limited seating. To register or to learn more, visit www.westminster.edu/planetarium. Snacks and drinks will be available for purchase. All proceeds go directly into maintaining the Planetarium and ensuring that shows remain free of charge.
