Shawn Redmond ’25
Oboe/Woodwind Performance Major
Professional Communication and Leadership Minor
Shawn Redmond, a senior from Ellwood City, Pa., is majoring in Oboe/Woodwind Performance with a minor in Professional Communication and Leadership. Throughout his time at Westminster College, he has made a lasting impact both within the college community and surrounding area.
Redmond is a member of multiple music ensembles including Marching Band (where he serves as vice president), Symphonic Band, Orchestra, Wind Ensemble, Jazz Ensemble and the Woodwind Quintet. He also shares his vocal talents with the Concert Choir, which traveled the Scotland last year to perform at various venues—one of his favorite collegiate experiences.
Additionally he participates in Pennsylvania Collegiate Music Educators Association (PcMEA) and is an active member of the international professional music fraternity Mu Phi Epsilon, Phi Omega Chapter, to which he serves as vice president and historian.
But his contributions towards campus go beyond that. Redmond is active with the Titan Theater Group—to which he holds the roles of secretary and social media coordinator. He has also served as director of “Goosebumps, The Musical: Phantom of the Auditorium,” producer of “The Twilight Zone” and assistant producer of “Grease.”
Last summer he traded Westminster’s performance stages for the New Wilmington Borough Park Amphitheater while serving as assistant director of the New Wilmington Theater Project summer camp. Working with Westminster College Community Engagement Fellow Dr. Helen Boylan and Tara Hackwelder, Wilmington Area High School (WAHS) English teacher and project director, Redmond got real, hands-on experience helping local children to produce a mini-musical for the New Wilmington community.
Redmond said the success of the summer program led him to yet another stage after being hired as the music director for WAHS’s fall musical production of “White Christmas.”
When Redmond isn’t performing his oboe, singing in the choir or preparing for the next Titan Theater Group show, he can often be found guiding prospective students around campus for the Office of Admissions or helping fellow students academically as a peer success coach, a position he finds impactful and rewarding.
Redmond, who will graduate in May, plans to attend graduate school to pursue a master’s degree in Multiple Woodwind Performance and/or Pedagogy.
