Brass musicians of all ages and skill levels are invited to attend Westminster College Brass Day, a music-filled day featuring brass faculty members and a featured guest musician, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday, March 1, in Orr Auditorium.
The free day-long event will give brass players the opportunity to learn from accomplished artists and polish their skills. Dr. Kayla Soloman, a trumpet performer and assistant professor of trumpet at the University of Saskatchewan, will be the featured guest artist.
“The day will be filled with amazing educational opportunities for aspiring brass musicians of all ages. Since the event is open to the public, it is a great opportunity to connect with musicians, meet brass players in the area and learn from a fantastic team of educators,” said Westminster College Assistant Professor of Music JaKobe Henry.
The day’s events include masterclasses and guest performances, a group warm-up class, educational and performance clinics, a guest artist presentation and performance and a faculty recital featuring Westminster music faculty—Henry on trumpet, Marissa Ulmer on horn, Laura Crytzer on trombone and Robert Antonucci on tuba.
“We are excited to host another fantastic Brass Day at Westminster College. Our featured guest performer, Dr. Kayla Solomon, brings a wealth of knowledge and passion for music and performing arts,” said Henry.
Formerly based in Los Angeles, Solomon finds deep fulfillment in sharing her passion for music, as well as her commitment to sports and performing arts medicine. Solomon’s interest in sports medicine has led her to focus on overuse embouchure injury prevention for trumpet players. She performs regularly with the Saskatoon Jazz Orchestra and participates in numerous music and education events throughout Saskatoon and the Canadian Prairies.
Brass Day at Westminster College is free and open to brass musicians of all ages and skill levels. Lunch will be provided to participants.
All performances will be open to the public.
