Community members are invited to experience and celebrate the creative works of Westminster College students during an Art Walk through a variety of campus locations from 4 to 6 p.m. Friday, May 2.
Artwork will be featured in the Foster Art Gallery in Patterson Hall, Russell Hall, McGill Library and the McKelvey Campus Center. The public is welcome to take in the exhibits on their own pace during this two-hour period. A dessert reception is part of the experience.
The event, co-hosted by the Art Department and the School of Communication, is free and open to the public.
Beyond main campus, student artwork can be found in three additional locations, including Pulse Coffee Company at 138 S. Market St., Hall of Hobbies at 128 E. Neshannock Ave., and the Westminster College Field Station at 937 Fayette-New Wilmington Road. A map of the art displays will be available at the Art Walk.
“By the end of the semester, our hallways and studios are filled with drawings, paintings, ceramics and sculpture. While we try to get some student art to accessible locations around campus, much of the artwork our students make is never seen outside our studios. We are excited for the opportunity to show our community what we’ve been doing,” said Summer Zickefoose, associate professor of art.
According to Kandice Hartner, lecturer in the School of Communication, students work hard each semester, creating a variety of pieces ranging from photography, film and design.
“We are excited to share in the process with artwork created during this past academic year, while also getting a chance to open our classroom spaces to those who may not have had a moment to check them out,” she said.
The Art Walk is part of Westminster College’s Beyond the Quad Art Series, the goal of which is to connect students and the community through the arts.
Beyond the Quad Art Series is supported by Westminster alumni Bob and Debby (Caleskie) Jewell, both 1980 graduates, and coordinated by the Center for Professional Development and Community Engagement at Westminster College.
