Jeannette Hooks has been named Diversity Coordinator at Westminster College.

Dr. Mandy Medvin, associate professor of psychology and Gibson-Drinko Distinguished Chair of Psychology, recently presented a paper at the International Federation for Information Processing in Manchester, England.

Medvin was invited to present the paper, "Using Technology to Encourage Social Problem Solving in Preschoolers."   The paper is a joint effort written by Medvin, Diana Reed, and Deborah Behr, both preschool teachers at the Westminster College Preschool Lab.  The paper outlines the joint project between the Westminster College Preschool Lab and Head Start of Lawrence County, which seeks to develop techniques encouraging social collaboration among children while using computers.

Westminster College recently added ten new full-time faculty members.

Several Westminster College professors will take part in a panel to discuss "Encouraging Math and Science Opportunities for Female and Minority Students" Tuesday, March 27, at 6:30 p.m. in the Hoyt Science Resources Center Phillips Lecture Hall.

Dr. Sandra Webster, Westminster professor of psychology and faculty development officer, presented "Creating and Maintaining a Classroom Culture of Respect" at the Professional Organization of Developers national conference in Pittsburgh, Oct. 25-28.

Nicholas Mizenko, a Westminster College junior biochemistry major, was runner-up for the 2008 M.J. Collins Award for Outstanding Young Innovator in Microwave Chemistry. The presentation was made at the fall national meeting of the American Chemical Society (ACS) Aug. 19 in Philadelphia.

Two Westminster College students from the studio of Kathryn Miller, Westminster College organist, were invited to perform in an organ recital March 29 at 3 p.m. in Heinz Chapel at the University of Pittsburgh. The recital is free and open to the public.

Dr. Timothy Cuff, Westminster College associate professor of history, presented a paper at the annual meeting of the Social Science History Association Nov. 12-15 in Long Beach, Calif.

Nineteen Westminster College students will study at off-campus locations ranging from Pittsburgh to France, Spain, Ireland and Northern Ireland, South Korea, England, Australia, and Costa Rica for the fall 2010 semester.

Dr. James Perkins, Westminster College distinguished professor of English emeritus, is seeking wood block prints created by local artist Nelson Oestreich.
